DNA Sequence alignment as part of a project in a biology course.
Gratefully borrowed from pixabay.com. An image of DNA.

A colleague and I have been working on a teaching tool for her genetics class.  Using an unnamed book, this tool references some methodologies present in that book, and follows a simplified logic to determine a genetic ancestry.

DNA Sequence Alignment

Right now, my present project for this endeavor is to get a student’s genome from http://www.bioservers.org/bioserver/ and push it through BLAST at  NCBI thereby aligning the individual genome to the reference genome.  Right now, I’m trying to use http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/BLAST/Doc/node1.html as the start of instructions on how to do this.

Does anyone have any easier ideas?
